LPA Tokyo advised Veolia Japan on the acquisition of a majority stake in Goi Coast Energy from Goi Coast Energy and Otaki Gas Corporation
LPA Tokyo advised Veolia Japan, a global company based in France providing comprehensive environmental services in three fields, water, waste treatment, and energy, on the acquisition of a majority stake in Goi Coast Energy from Goi Coast Energy and Otaki Gas Corporation, becoming its largest shareholder.
Goi Coast Energy supplies steam and electricity to JNC Petrochemical Ichihara plant (Chiba prefecture), while providing surplus electricity to customers through power retail companies.
This strategic acquisition allows Veolia Japan to strengthen its position in local energy production, aligned with the Group’s ‘GreenUp’ program, which identifies local energy supply as a key growth driver. By bringing its global expertise in energy management and operational excellence, Veolia reinforces its presence in Japan’s industrial utility outsourcing market and creates opportunities for diversifying environmental services within the industrial complex. Goi Coast Energy will play a crucial role in contributing to industry and local communities with stable, efficient, and low-carbon solutions.
Veolia Japan is committed to serving society through its extensive operations, including the operation & maintenance of 160 drinking and wastewater treatment facilities, the recycling of 56,000 tons of plastics, and the ability to treat 90,000 tons of hazardous waste with heat recovery annually. The company also operates five wood chip biomass power plants, reinforcing its dedication to sustainable energy solutions.
The LPA Tokyo team, led by partner Pascal Mages, assisted by Kosuke Oie, partner, Mina Ishikawa, associate, Jing Huang, associate, and Shunsuke Yahagi, judicial scrivener, supported Veolia Japan throughout the acquisition process until its successful finalization.
