LPA Law advises BayernLB on financing of hybrid railway maintenance vehicles

The Munich office of LPA Law has advised BayernLB on the financing of 13 hybrid overhead line maintenance vehicles to be deployed by DB InfraGO.

The vehicles, of the CatenaryCrafter type, are manufactured by Austrian railway equipment specialist Plasser & Theurer and leased to Plasser Robel Services. As the Austrian family-owned manufacturer is the only company worldwide producing the battery-powered version of these vehicles, a direct award procedure was permissible. The financing, provided by BayernLB with DAL acting as co-arranger and structurer, is structured as a hire-purchase model covering a four-year construction period followed by a two-year operational phase.

The transaction complies with BayernLB’s Sustainable Financing Framework and supports the modernization and maintenance of railway infrastructure in Germany. The hybrid vehicles are designed to operate both via overhead line and battery power, enabling emission-free operation during maintenance works and contributing to more sustainable rail operations.

The Munich office of LPA Law advised BayernLB on all legal aspects of the financing, with a team led by partner Andreas Feuerstein and partner Dorothea Schimmel.
