On 23 April 2020, the Algerian Government adopted Decree No. 20-102 extending the lockdown until 14 May 2020.

Decree No. 20-102 extends the lockdown for a period of 15 days for all wilayas in Algeria, i.e. until 14 May 2020:

  • Partial lockdown from 2 p.m. until 7 a.m. the following day for the wilaya of Blida
  • Partial lockdown from 5 p.m. until 7 a.m. for the wilayas of Algiers, Béjaïa, Tlemcen, Tizi Ouzou, Sétif, Médéa, Oran, Tipaza and Aïn Defla
  • Partial lockdown from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. the following day for the other wilayas of the country

Decree No. 20-102 provides that all the measures adopted as part of the measures to prevent and combat the spread of the coronavirus provided for in the previous decrees remain applicable until 14 May 2020 (restriction of freedom of movement, exceptional paid leave for 50 per cent of the workforce in the public and private sectors, prohibition of any meeting of more than two persons, etc.).

The Bank of Algeria has also adopted three instructions aimed at strengthening bank liquidity:

  • Reduction of the key interest rate applicable to the main refinancing operations to 3% instead of 3.25%
  • Reduction of the rate of banks’ compulsory reserves from 8% to 6%
  • Increase in the threshold for refinancing by the Bank of Algeria of negotiable public securities
